JERUSALEM,— Iran has confirmed the deaths of two high-ranking military intelligence leaders following an alleged Israeli airstrike on Sunday in the capital, Tehran.
Brigadier General Mohammad Kazemi, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence, and his deputy, General Hassan Mohaqiq, were killed when a missile struck their headquarters, according to an official statement from the IRGC Public Relations Department.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier told Fox News that Israeli forces had “taken out” both commanders in the operation.
Also on Sunday, the Israeli military reportedly targeted an Iranian aerial refueling plane stationed at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, some 2,300 kilometers (1,400 miles) from Israeli territory.
The developments follow Israeli airstrikes last Friday that resulted in the deaths of 20 Iranian military officials. Among them were Armed Forces Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC commander Hossein Salami, local sources reported.
