WASHINGTON,— The White House announced Friday the first members of a new international board tasked with supervising Gaza’s temporary governance, which has been under a fragile ceasefire since October.

The board, referred to as the “Board of Peace,” will include U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Trump is serving as chair, according to a framework released by the White House in October.

Israel and Hamas approved the plan, which calls for a Palestinian technocratic authority to manage Gaza during a transitional period, under the oversight of the international board. The board will monitor governance and coordinate with international partners.

The White House did not specify the exact duties of each board member and no Palestinian officials were included in the founding executive team. Additional members are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Other members of the board will include private equity executive Marc Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Trump adviser Robert Gabriel.

The White House also said that Nickolay Mladenov, a former U.N. envoy for the Middle East, will serve as Gaza’s high representative.

Army Major General Jasper Jeffers, a U.S. special operations commander, was appointed to lead the International Stabilization Force. The force was authorized by a U.N. Security Council resolution in November to support the board’s efforts in Gaza.

In addition, the White House named an 11-member Gaza Executive Board to support Mladenov and the Palestinian technocratic body.

This team will include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, U.N. Middle East peace coordinator Sigrid Kaag, the United Arab Emirates minister for international cooperation Reem Al-Hashimy, Israeli-Cypriot businessman Yakir Gabay, and several executive board members.

Since October 2023, Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire.

The conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led Islamist militants launched a large-scale attack on southern Israel, killing roughly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, including women and children, and capturing 251 hostages.
