NEW YORK,— The son of Iraqi Kurdistan region president, Idris Nechirvan Barzani, is suspected of having indirectly acquired a Porsche 918 Spyder supercar through a closely affiliated company, according to leaked documents obtained by iKurd News.
Among these documents is the establishment record of a company named PetroServe, with a registered capital of 1,000,000 Iraqi dinars ($850). The owner, identified as Bawar Saeed Abdulrahim, has close ties with Idris Nechirvan Barzani. Additionally, the documents indicate Bejan Akram Qadir as the legal representative of the company, which was founded in 2014.

Further leaked documents, including invoices, indicate that in 2017, PetroServe co., represented by Bejan Akram Qadir, purchased a Porsche 918 Spyder sports luxury car model from 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland, for 1,731,400 Euros, equivalent to $1,860,000. It appears that Idris Nechirvan Barzani has been using this Porsche 918 Spyder, as evidenced by a photo of him driving the car in southern France.
There’s also a photograph featuring Idris and Bawar together.
On its website, PetroServe presents itself as “a leading trader of oil and related supplies in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.” The company emphasizes its commitment to superior infrastructure and service standards in the oil and gas industry, catering to clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

According to observers and opposition politicians, the Barzanis’ involvement is essential for any company wishing to operate or trade oil.
The purchase of a super luxury car by PetroServe raises questions, especially regarding its use by Idris Nechirvan Barzani.
Idris Nechirvan Barzani doesn’t hesitate to indulge in luxurious extravagance, a behavior that prompts concerns among many about the responsible use of wealth and power. This is particularly significant in a society grappling with economic inequalities.
In June 2023, additional leaked documents obtained by iKurd News showed that Idris had purchased Vacheron Constantin wristwatches in 2017, valued at over $375,000.
A source close to Idris Nechirvan Barzani informed iKurd that he holds citizenship and a passport from Saint Kitts and Nevis, a country known for offering citizenship through investment programs. However, we have not been able to independently verify this information but will continue to investigate.
Iraqi Kurdistan is under the control of the ruling Barzani clan, often referred to as the “Kurdish oligarchs”.
Critics and observers have consistently accused the ruling Barzani clan of nepotism and accumulating significant wealth from oil ventures for their family rather than serving the population. Idris’ paternal uncle, the tribal leader Massoud Barzani, remains a dominant figure in Iraqi Kurdistan, with his son Masrour serving as the Kurdistan region’s prime minister and his nephew Nechirvan Barzani holding the presidency.
