Concerning the Undisclosed Whereabouts and Welfare of Elizabeth Tsurkov, Abducted from the Karada District of Baghdad City in March 2023.
In the public interest, for the welfare of Elizabeth Tsurkov’s friends and family, and for the right of academics, researchers and journalists to work without fear of persecution in IRAQ, a state of law, we DEMAND accountability from the Government of Iraq to disclose the whereabouts and wellbeing of Ms. Tsurkov.
We demand that Elizabeth Tsurkov be permitted to speak openly and publicly before the government.
We demand to know why Elizabeth Tsurkov has not been brought before the government or international media.
We demand that the Iraqi parliament and its media confirm, with hard and current evidence, that Elizabeth Tsurkov is alive and in good health after being seized in Baghdad and held INCOGNITO in an undisclosed location for six months against her will.
We demand to know the reason why Elizabeth Tsurkov was abducted, why the Government of Iraq has said nothing and who has been holding her thus incognito.
We demand that Elizabeth Tsurkov and travellers to Iraq not be subjected to secret HOSTAGE TAKING and SECRET NEGOTIATIONS between governments, militias, or kidnapping gangs.
We demand the immediate release of Elizabeth Tsurkov in good health and with a full account of why she has been detained in an illegal and dangerous manner without recourse to lawyers, family, or friends. No compensation can equal such illegal conduct and ill treatment after the fact.
The kidnapping, and illegal detention of Elizabeth Tsurkov is a disgrace to IRAQ and its government and is unacceptable.
