BAGHDAD,— Turkey on Friday urged its citizens to avoid non essential travel to Iraq and Kurdistan Regionas the country becomes linked to the ongoing war involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
A statement from the Turkish embassy in Baghdad said Turkish nationals should not travel to Iraq during this period unless there is a compelling reason.
The embassy advised that Turkish citizens should refrain from traveling to Iraq at this time unless it is absolutely necessary.
The embassy also warned citizens to stay away from crowded public squares and gathering places near the Green Zone in Baghdad.
It advised avoiding Baghdad International Airport and Erbil International Airport in Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as residential areas in and around Mosul.
The warning also covered areas near Basra and locations tied to critical infrastructure such as military zones and oil fields across Iraq.
The Green Zone in Baghdad and the city of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan have faced attacks from Iran backed groups operating in Iraq that target United States assets.
Iran has also carried out strikes against positions of Iranian Kurdish groups based in exile in Iraq.
Despite the security concerns, the embassy said the road link between Turkey and Iraq remains open for traffic.
Fighting across the Middle East has entered its second week after the United States and Israel launched large scale strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026 that killed the country’s supreme leader.
Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and Gulf states allied with the United States, targeting both civilian areas and energy infrastructure.
