WASHINGTON,— The U.S. Treasury announced Wednesday that it lifted counter-terrorism sanctions on Iraq’s Fly Baghdad Airlines and two of its aircraft.

The penalties were first placed in 2024 over the airline’s alleged ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force.

A Treasury official said the decision does not signal any change in U.S. policy toward Iran’s government, the Revolutionary Guards, or any group labeled as a terrorist organization.

The official added that the move is not connected to ongoing U.S. talks with Iran aimed at easing tensions in the Gulf region.

Fly Baghdad Airlines Co, its subsidiary Iraq Express, and two Boeing 737 planes were taken off the Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals list.

Officials said the step came through a routine review process at the Office of Foreign Assets Control, which reconsiders sanctions when a company’s conduct changes.

The official said Fly Baghdad had made major operational changes that made the listing unnecessary, adding that the airline had resolved the issues that led to sanctions.

No specifics were given, and the official warned that sanctions could be reimposed at any time.
