TEL AVIV,— Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said Wednesday that Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib was killed in an overnight strike.
There was no confirmation from Iran on Khatib’s reported death.
Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the military to target other senior Iranian officials without further approval.
In a media statement Tuesday, Katz said Israel’s military also targeted Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani and he was killed.
The Israel Defense Forces said it killed Gholamreza Soleimani, head of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force, along with his deputy Seyyed Karishi, in the same series of operations. Officials said details about timing and locations were not disclosed.
